A Few Romantic Getaways Across Wyoming
I am a big fan of traveling across the state and finding places that I can enjoy close to home. With that in mind I have found some great places to get away from it all and just enjoy my brides company. Here are a few of our favorites.
The Elk Mountain Hotel is at the top of my list because it is truly a getaway. A number of people live in Elk mountain, Wyoming , but this is the only place to be. No bars no stores, no distractions. The owners Susan and Arthur are exceptional hosts and they have built a beautiful business and experience in a small town. You have a remarkable hotel with period furnishings, modern amenities and no TV or telephone for distraction. The restaurant is exceptional with gourmet selections for dinner ranging from steaks to poultry, seafood and more. For Valentines weekend a special menu has been created and it looks amazing. Reservations for dinner are always encouraged and reservations for special weekends are sometimes needed weeks in advance.
Saratoga is a place that is near my heart as I lived on a ranch outside of town there as a kid. As an adult I have had the time to go back and find some wonderful experiences. Here are 3 that come to mind. Try an overnight stay at the Wolf Hotel and an incredible Italian dinner at Bella"s Bistro. Bella's is an incredible dining experience with food and service found in 4 and 5 star restaurants and it fills up fast so call well ahead for reservations. Try the Saratoga Resort and Spa with their great restaurant and bar and private teepee covered hot tubs. You can also camp on the banks of the Platte River and do some fishing followed by a soak in the Hobo Pool, just outside of downtown. All one needs do is define romance before you go.
The Historic Hotel Higgins and the Paisley shawl restaurant in Glenrock makes the list as it is a quick 25 minute ride from Casper but far enough away to get away. This is another of those great getaways as the amenities are in place for you to enjoy all your time in one place. The rooms are beautifully decorated and roomy. The Antelope Bar on site gives you the ability to dine casually and have a few cocktails but the true gem is the Paisley Shawl with the updated decorating and historic fixtures along with the incredible food. It is truly a memorable dining experience.
Now I know you are saying what is so romantic about a casino, but I have to tell you that the beds at the hotel are the lushest most comfortable beds I have ever slept on, including my own. With the beds being what they are, the beautiful decorating that has been done and the room size ,all one needs to do is take your own cheese tray and loaf of bread and never leave the room. However if you do venture out I do like the Red Willow Restaurant on site or you can put on a few miles and travel to Hudson for a unique dining experience at Svilars, it will be unforgettable. I would also recommend a trip the next morning to Lander, Wy for breakfast at The Middle Fork, one of the best breakfasts in Wyoming, in my opinion, followed by a drive up the Sinks Canyon.
