Behind the numbers: Wyoming vs. Hawaii
HONOLULU, Hawaii -- If you like rushing yards, you came to the right place.
Consider this, Wyoming has rolled up 695 yards on the ground in its last two outings. That included a 28-14 win over Utah State and Saturday night's 27-20 road victory at Hawaii.
Per usual, the Cowboys rank second in the Mountain West in rushing, averaging 194 yards per game. Air Force, as always, leads in that category with 337.
Titus Swen ranks sixth in the league with 679 yards on 148 carries. The junior has added seven touchdowns. DQ James, after carrying the ball just 10 times for 23 yards through five games, has now moved into the Top 20 in the conference.

That's Wyoming's overall record against Hawaii after Saturday night's win inside Ching Athletics Complex in Honolulu. The Cowboys are now 8-7 on the road in this series. It was the first victory on the islands since 1997.

That's how many rushing yards the Cowboys rolled up against the Rainbow Warriors. In last week's win over Utah State, UW chalked up 330 on the ground. It's the first time in the Craig Bohl era that his team has eclipsed the 300-yard rushing mark in consecutive games.

That's how many yards DQ James rushed for Saturday night in a back-up role. Starter Titus Swen was lost to concussion protocol in the first quarter after carrying the ball five times for 14 yards. The redshirt freshman stepped in and averaged better than 12 yards per carry for the second straight week. Against the Aggies and Rainbow Warriors, James has carried the ball 24 times for 299 yards. That's an average of 12.5 yards per rush.

That's the number of yards Andrew Peasley threw for in the win over UH. The junior completed only 7-of-15 throws and tossed a pair of interceptions. However, the Oregon product more than made up for it on the ground, rushing for 71 yards on 14 carries. He also scored two touchdowns on the ground, including a 35-yard sprint to the end zone to get the Cowboys on the board in the second quarter.

Dawaiian McNeely didn't play against Utah State. A lingering nerve issue in his right hand led to that decision. With Swen on the sideline in street clothes, Bohl and Co. inserted the sophomore running back in the lineup in the second half and it paid off in a big way. With the Pokes and 'Bows tied at 13-13 early in the fourth quarter, McNeely blew right through the middle of the UH defense and scampered 61 yards for the go-ahead score. He added 20 more yards on three more carries.

That's the amount of receiving yards Joshua Cobbs finished with in Honolulu. Twenty-five of those came on a critical third-down catch in the red zone late in the fourth quarter. The sophomore from San Antonio has not been prevalent in the game plan of late, but is still UW's leading receiver with 28 grabs for 346 yards and two scores.

That's how many pass breakups Cam Stone recorded in the win over Hawaii. The sophomore cornerback disrupted a number of long passes off the right arm of Brayden Schager, who finished with 202 passing yards after completing 23-of-45 throws on the night. Wyett Ekeler had two pass breakups and Braden Siders had one.

Wyoming finished with that many tackles behind the line of scrimmage, led by defensive end DeVonne Harris, who landed three tackles for loss. Siders, another defensive end, tallied the one UW sack in the contest.

That's Wyoming's third-down conversion rate Saturday night. The 'Bows were 6-of-17 in that category.

That's UW's time of possession against Hawaii. The visitors ran just 59 plays compared to 75 for the Rainbow Warriors, who held onto the ball for 26:52.

That's the number of penalties the Cowboys were hit with Saturday night. One of the least penalized teams in the country, UW lost 60 total yards. To make matters worse, a Wrook Brown interception for a touchdown was wiped off the board because of a roughing-the-passer penalty against linebacker Cole DeMarzo.

Wyoming was perfect in the red zone. That included Peasley's four-yard touchdown scamper in the fourth and a pair of John Hoyland field goals.

That is Wyoming's updated record after the win on the islands. The Cowboys are just one game behind Boise State in the loss column with three games to go. Those two will meet Nov. 19 inside War Memorial Stadium.

That's the Pokes' record in trophy games so far this season. UW claimed Jim Bridger's Rifle in a 28-14 win over Utah State. The Paniolo Trophy will now make the 3,000-plus journey across the Pacific Ocean and reside in Laramie after the victory over Hawaii. There's still one piece of regular-season hardware on the line. That, of course, is the Bronze Boot, which goes to the winner of the annual Border War between rivals Wyoming and Colorado State. That game will take place Nov. 12 in Fort Collins. The Cowboys will have their second bye week of the season next Saturday.

That's Bohl's overall record in his eight-plus years in Laramie. He won just six games over his first two seasons on the high plains and since has averaged 6.4 victories per season.
