A Canadian major crime unit has been called in to investigate the case of a Wyoming man who has been missing in southern British Columbia for nearly two weeks

Benjamin Tyner, 32, was reported missing to the Merritt detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on Jan. 28 after his horse was found alone on a logging road. An exhaustive week-long search yielded no new evidence, and was suspended on Monday.

Tyner is a graduate of Cheyenne Central High School.

"While the official search was suspended on Sunday after seven days of searching, the investigation is not over," S/Sgt. Lorne Wood, commander of the Merritt RCMP detachment, said in a statement Wednesday. "We are thankful to have the expertise and resources available from the [Southeast District Major Crime Unit] to assist us as the investigation transitions from a short term search effort."

Area residents have been advised that they may notice an increased police presence throughout the Merritt area.

Anyone with information about Tyner's disappearance is asked to contact the Merritt detachment at 250-378-4262.
