PhotoFest: North Downs South 34-28 in 52nd Annual Shrine Bowl
The annual Shrine Bowl All-Star Football game in Casper on Saturday turned out to be a very competitive game with the North building a 20-point lead and holding to beat the South 34-28. The North now leads the series 28-20-3 with Powell's Keona Wisniewski named the Defensive Player of the Game and Smith McClure of Star Valley named the Offensive Player of the Game.
The North opened the scoring with a 1-yard plunge into the end zone from Sheridan's Kelten Crow to make it 7-0, and the North extended the lead in that first half on a 47-yard gallop to the end zone by Grady McCarten of Cody to bump the lead to 14.
The South answered in the 2nd quarter as Max Alexander of Laramie caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Smith McClure to cut the gap to 14-7. But the North got a couple of field goals from Sheridan's Ty Gilbertson, including a Shrine Bowl record 51-yarder to lead 20-7 at the intermission.
The North squad took a 20-point lead in the 3rd quarter on a 31-yard TD throw from Lovell's Davin Crosby to Thunder Basin's Cort Catlin to make it 27-7. McClure and Alexander hooked up for their 2nd touchdown connection, this one covered 51 yards to shave the lead to 27-14. A very long lightning delay came in the 4th quarter, and when play finally resumed, Ty Gilbertson raced down the sidelines for 73 yards, giving the North a little bit of breathing room at 34-21.

The South hung right in there as McClure found Alexander for the 3rd time on a play that resulted in a 14-yard touchdown, so it was 34-28. The North recovered the onside kick to seal the win to take the trophy for the 2nd straight year and 3 of the last 4.
