Game And Fish Offers Hunting Basics Class For Adults
So you want to learn to hunt, but don't know where to start? The Casper Region of the Wyoming Game and Fish is offering a new class this fall that should fit the bill. The ‘Hunting in Wyoming, How to Get Started’ course is designed to teach the basics of where to begin.
Casper Wildlife Coordinator Justin Binfet, who grew up in Casper, says even though his family was from Wyoming they didn’t hunt. It wasn’t until college that he was exposed to the sport, and he decided he wanted to teach folks how to get started.
“I learned to hunt from buddies, and I always wished there was more information out there for me as an adult to learn the basics. That is one of the main reasons I developed this class," said Binfet. "Beginners ask me all the time where to begin, so I decided to design a two-part class that will hopefully help those interested in learning how to get involved and where to start.”
The two-part class is designed for adults interested in learning to hunt and will contain the basics of regulations, the licensing process, where to look for the information you might need, general map reading skills, public land access and much more.
Binfet points out that people have many different reasons for wanting to hunt. “Whether it is to provide food for your family, spend time with family and friends or just to be outside, everyone has a different reason. I hope to take the intimidation out of how to understand hunting regulations and basic access to a level that people realize it is easy to get started and they too can enjoy hunting,” he added.
The class will be held at the Game and Fish office in Casper, 3030 Energy Lane, on Sept. 11 and Sept. 13 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. An RSVP is requested to Justin Binfet at (307) 473-3408.
Officials point out that this is not a hunter education course and will not provide you with a hunter safety certificate. Instead, the class content is designed to provide an excellent learning opportunity about the basics of hunting in Wyoming.
