Heating Unit Sparks Fire in Casper Business
A fire at Casper auto repair shop broke out Friday night, but officials say the business is expected to operate normally. Casper Fire-EMS says they were called out to for a structure fire at 1402 East Second Street about 9:45 Friday night.
When they arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the roof. When crews got into the building found a small fire contained to the area around a heating unit. The fire was put out quickly, and the building sustained minor damage but fire officials say the business is expected to operate as usual. The building wasn't occupied at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries reported.
Fire officials say they're still investigating the cause, but initial findings indicated there was "an undetermined malfunction of the heating unit."
The Casper Fire-EMS Department says they'd like to pass along these educational messages:
- All forms of heating equipment need space. Keep any flammable materials at least three feet from heating equipment.
- All heating equipment should be install by a qualified professional
- All heating equipment should be inspected and maintained by a qualified professional on an annual basis.
