I'm not a fan of my favorite shows getting canceled on TV, I'm not a fan of the 'cancel culture' and I'm definitely not a fan of how hard it is to cancel online subscriptions you no longer want.

A few years ago I canceled my Netflix subscription. I felt I spent way too much time scrolling through the selections, instead of actually watching shows or movies. So, BOOM, the decision was made. The problem is, it takes a long time to actually cancel.

Didn't take very long for them to let me sign up and spend my money every month, but when it came time for us to part ways, it wasn't as simple.

The service you signed up for surely doesn't want you to cancel, that's taking money out of their pocket. When you don't see the email or watch their service, there's no way you can be influenced to buy whatever it is they're selling.

So if they make it hard to cancel.

There's a good chance you'll either forget about the subscription, or you won't take the time to go through with it.

I'll be the first to admit that I have way too many streaming platforms & website memberships and too many 'offers' through email. Have you ever tried to click the 'unsubscribe' button on an email? They say it may take a few days to a few weeks for you to stop getting unwanted email.

Some businesses too often trick consumers into paying for subscriptions they no longer want or didn’t sign up for in the first place. The proposed rule would require that companies make it as easy to cancel a subscription as it is to sign up for one. The proposal would save consumers time and money, and businesses that continued to use subscription tricks and traps would be subject to stiff penalties.

Any time you have to create an account for something, if you're not careful, you're going to be receiving unwanted 'offer' email. If you sign up for a 'trial' of a certain app, streaming service or other online trap, if you don't physically cancel the service, you're going to get charged.

There are apps you can download to monitor all of your subscriptions...BUT, you have to have a subscription to monitor your subscriptions.

We're about to get into the 'lets get outside and explore' time of the year, I don't want to have to waste time going through long processes trying to cancel unwanted subscriptions.

You can take a look at what is all proposed on this fact sheet.
