Motorcyclist Who Died After Crashing Into Cheyenne Building Identified

The 20-year-old man who died after crashing his motorcycle into a building in north central Cheyenne last Wednesday, Aug. 28 has been identified as Wyoming resident Ayden Maitner.

According to a fatality crash summary released Tuesday by the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Maitner was riding eastbound on East Lincolnway around 8:05 a.m. when he drifted out of the right lane and into the right turn lane for Nationway.

Maitner then reportedly continued across the intersection, exiting the roadway, and hit Cheyenne Stitch.

While the summary indicates Maitner was not wearing a helmet, Laramie County Coroner Rebecca Reid says he was.

Maitner was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, where he was pronounced dead.

According to his obituary (see below), Maitner was born in Cheyenne and moved to Florida at six months old, where he was raised and attended school.

"Ayden loved God and actively participated in his church youth group," his obituary reads.

After completing high school, Maitner moved to Mississippi for college and returned to Cheyenne the following year.

"Ayden loved diving and excelled at it throughout high school and college," his obituary reads. "His love for motorcycles was passed down from his grandfather, Dad, and Uncle."

According to fatal crash statistics from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, 18 motorcyclists have died on Wyoming's highways so far this year, five in August alone.

Ayden Ryan Reed Maitner, beloved son of April and Jason, sadly passed away on August 28, 2024, at the young age of 20 years old. Ayden was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and moved to Florida at six months old. He was raised in Florida, where he attended school. Ayden loved God and actively participated in his church youth group. After completing high school, Ayden moved to Mississippi for College and returned to Cheyenne the following year. Ayden loved diving and excelled at it throughout high school and college. His love for motorcycles was passed down from his grandfather, Dad, and Uncle. Ayden brought a smile to everyone around him by being his funny, silly, wild, outgoing self. He had a heart of gold and believed strongly in equality and loving others. He was truly one of a kind and is going to be deeply missed.

Ayden is survived by his Mother and Father (April and Jason Maitner), Godmother (Tanya Mosher), Paternal Grandfather (Edward Maitner), Paternal Grandmother (Jane Maitner), Paternal Uncle (Patrick Maitner), Paternal Cousins (Kevin, Patrick Jr. and Nathan Maitner), Maternal Grandmother (Carmen Milbury), Maternal Aunt and Uncle (Christina and Robert Frederick), Maternal Cousin (Hope Frederick) and many other Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins who loved him deeply.

Proceeded in Death by his Maternal Grandfather (James Reed).

There will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, September 6th at 3pm at Schrader, Aragon & Jacoby, 2222 Russell Ave, Cheyenne, Wyoming 82001.
