Cheyenne Police say Alta Vista School was placed in a secure perimeter on Tuesday afternoon after a report of shots being fired on East Lincolnway was received.

That's according to a post on the Cheyenne Police Department Facebook page. According to the post, police were sent to the 2000 block of East Lincolnway around 2:15 p.m. after someone reported hearing shots being fired.

The school is located on East 16th Street.

The post says a male suspect was arrested. The post does not identify the suspect, but it says the secure perimeter was activated at the school "out of an abundance of caution."

The post says that the area where the shots were fired was soon cleared and that police didn't believe there was any threat to public safety following the arrest.

They may not be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, but make no bones about it, police dogs play a vital role in the fight against crime.

In many situations, they're the first ones to put their lives on the line to protect their human partners, proving that not all heroes wear capes, some wear fur coats.
