If you were to ask me, I'd say that it is up to you. You didn't ask, but I'll tell you I'm a morning shower guy. In my job, I need to be as awake, alert, and mentally prepared as possible. This topic has been debated for years, and according to the Sleep Foundation, we may be doing it wrong.

The study shows that 41.8% of people who choose to shower or bathe do so in the morning, for the same reasons I do. Only 25.3% of people who choose to shower or bathe and not stink do it at night, and that quarter of the population is doing it right. There are many benefits to a pre-bed shower, and if you're not sleeping well, you may consider a change. There are a couple of key components that can really increase your likelihood of a shower helping you sleep.

What are the best tips for using a shower for a good night's sleep?

  1. Research shows that an evening shower or bath in water between 104 and 108.5 degrees improves sleep.
  2. Taking a shower or bath 1 to 2 hours before is the best time to help sleep.
  3. Showering nightly will help you with your bedtime routine and, in turn, improve your sleep.
  4. If you're stuffy from a cold, a hot shower before bed can ease your sinuses and help you sleep better.

The research also shows that you should lean toward a hot shower/ bath at night, because cold water is said to raise your alertness, which boosts your body's cortisol levels and isn't going to help you fall asleep.
