Natrona County Law Enforcement Promotes Seat Belt Use Around Memorial Day
Natrona County law enforcement agencies will step up the enforcement of seat belt use before, during and after the Memorial Day holiday, according to a news release from the Casper Police Departrment.
The annual "Click It or Ticket" high-visibility effort runs from May 20 through June 2 and is focused on enforcing seat belt use.
“For Click It or Ticket we’ll be working with law enforcement agencies across our county and state to get the message out,” Sheriff's Lt. John Harlin said.
“We must emphasize the importance of wearing a seat belt," Harlin said. Wearing your seatbelt is the easiest thing you can do to save your life in a crash and it’s the law. We see the fatal results of not wearing a seat belt all the time. So often, these deaths could have been prevented with the simple click of a seat belt.”
In 2017, eight people in Natrona County died in vehicle crashes because they did not wear their seat belts, he said.
Nationally in 2017, 10,076 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants died in crashes.
Harlin urged people to use seat belts and encourage those who don't to wear them, Harlin said. "Seat belts save lives, and all of us need to remember to buckle up—every trip, every time.”
