A few weeks ago, Natrona County was preparing to test all the emergency sirens, but heavy law enforcement presence in Casper meant the test had to be postponed.

Better safe than sorry, right?

Now that things have cooled off and we're moving into a nice weather pattern, we've rescheduled the tests for Tuesday, October 20. Natrona County Emergency Management wants to remind you that between about 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., the county's sirens will be tested individually to ensure they're in tip-top shape.

Please do not be alarmed if you hear sirens during this time. This is only a test. There is no need to contact emergency services or call 9-1-1 to report the sirens.
Outdoor Warning Sirens are designed to alert people who are outdoors. We encourage community members to use this opportunity to practice moving to a safe indoor location and seeking additional information from official sources when they hear the sirens.

These sirens are placed throughout Casper, Mills, Evansville, Midwest, Edgerton, Bar Nunn, and other areas across Natrona County. Again, these are in place to warn you of danger. The hope is that you'll never have to hear them, or if you do, it will be only a test to ensure they're working properly.

If you ever hear the sirens outside the testing period, you should have an emergency plan in place that everyone in your family knows. When you know tests are coming, use that opportunity to check your plan and emergency kits, and do a practice run yourself. Again, you hope you never need it, but knowing how to put your plan into motion is important.
