No More Drive-Thru For A Popular Casper Hangout
The plans have been in the works for quite some time, and the time is rapidly approaching. The CY Liquor Discount and The Backdoor Lounge is closing, but not going away. As of Halloween 2023, the current location and drive thru is closed.
Leading up to Halloween, a message was posted on their Facebook page, detailing that Halloween 2023 would be the last Halloween Blast at the current location.
WE'RE MOVING! Our new location, on CY between Rocky Mountain Discount Sports & Once Upon A Child, has been under construction for a while and is nearing completion.
It's good news that the business isn't closing, but is just re-locating. The bad news is that there won't be a drive-thru available at the new locations. According to the Casper, Wyoming Code of Ordinances, if a location with a drive thru moves to a new location, the drive thru license can't be transferred.
5.08.260 - Use of drive-in areas—Restrictions.
No retail liquor license may be renewed, granted or transferred for any establishment having what is commonly known as a "drive-up" window, door or other service area intended to allow the purchase of alcohol from a motor vehicle. However, nothing in this section shall prohibit the renewal or transfer of a license for an existing establishment having a "drive-up" window in operation prior to the effective date of the ordinance codified in this section at its current location or on adjacent and abutting real property. Should the license be transferred to a new location which is not on adjacent and abutting real property, a "drive-up" window shall not be allowed.
Many comments on the Facebook post mention that the lack of drive-thru will be a big deciding factor on how often they visit the new location.
Another piece of good news, if you frequent the current location to buy your adult beverages, you'll only have to go a little further down CY Ave to get to the new location. It's located in the new strip between Rocky Mountain Discount Sports and Ace Hardware on CY Avenue.
With the completion of the new location, the move is in the process now, but the opening date is still yet to be determined.
The longtime establishment is a part of John Johnson's JRG Restaurant group.
