Anyone who has ever fought the battle of trying to lose weight, might wish to pay attention. A new drug in development could be a miracle pill dieters have been begging for.
We've all wished for a simple solution to battle weight gain. Well a simple solution that helps us jump start a successful weight loss program and indulge in the foods we love, is are real possibility.
Obesity is a real problem not only here in the U.S., but around the world. Obesity, defined as body mass index greater than 30, is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality and a financial burden worldwide. Despite significant efforts in the past decade, very few drugs have been successfully developed for the treatment of obese patients.
A new drug that is being tested by MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas, may prove to be the magical pill that society has been waiting for. This new experimental drug was tested on monkeys and the monkeys lost an average of 11 percent of their body weight without dieting or exercise.
The researchers have applied for FDA approval to want to begin trials in people, possibly within a year.
Obviously, if the drug ends up being successful in humans, it would never be permanent solution. Instead, it would be a kick-start used along with future diet and exercise.
