If you're willing to get off the beaten path, there are some hidden gems in southeastern Wyoming.

Here's our completely subjective and totally unofficial list of the best small town taverns and saloons in the southeast corner of the Cowboy State, in alphabetical order.

The Bitch's Corner in LIngle - In spite of its name, we're told that the owner of this Main Street hangout is a very nice lady. The Corner has several pool tables, a large dance hall, and the locals say their kitchen serves the best burgers in town.

College Inn Bar in Douglas - The longest running business in Converse County is still going strong. This institution has been serving up stiff drinks since 1906. The elaborate woodwork, mural and decor is worthy of its place on the National Register of Historic Places.

Dead Horse Saloon in LaGrange - This trading post is one of the few businesses left on State Highway 151. No frills, nothing fancy, just a good old fashion gathering place in the middle of nowhere.

Knotty Pine Saloon in Pine Bluffs - Renowned by truck drivers across the country, this Interstate 80 roadhouse can get rowdy on the weekends. It's also popular with locals, who rave about the burgers and beer braised hot dogs.

Longbranch Steakhouse and Saloon in Hawk Springs - For over 50 years, the Longbranch has been a "must stop" for travellers on US Highway 85, especially for bikers on their way to Sturgis every summer. For a small roadside saloon, the menu is incredible.

Miners and Stockmen's in Hartville - If you're a history buff, this is your spot. It's the oldest continuously operating saloon in Wyoming, dating back to 1862. Once a hideout for outlaws, bank robbers and cattle rustlers, it’s one of the last remaining remnants of the Fort Laramie trading post. If only those walls could talk.

Tumbleweed Bar in Burns - Don't let the name and location fool you. Sure, it's called the Tumbleweed and it's on 4070 County Road 211, between Road 141 and Road 140, but it does have indoor plumbing and electricity. They've got some televsions and pool tables, too.
