The Cowboys Celebrated the Victory and are Ready for the Bye Week [VIDEOS]
Saturday’s victory over Texas State was the Wyoming Cowboys best performance of the season through five games.
UW utilized all three phases of the game and got big contributions from several different Cowboys in a 45-10 win.
First was a major bounce back game for sophomore receiver C.J. Johnson, who had four catches for 57 yards and two touchdowns.
Fellow sophomore Tyler Hall became the first Cowboy in school history to return two kick-offs for a touchdown, let alone in consecutive weeks. Last week’s was 97 yards, while Saturday’s went 95 yards.
Senior Rico Gafford got in on the act, as he intercepted his third pass this season. This time Gafford took it back for a score. He added two tackles in the game.
Sophomore Logan Wilson led the Wyoming defense with 12 tackles, which included six solo stops and one amazing play. Wilson got a sack, forced fumble, fumble recovery and touchdown in one play.
Sophomore Youhanna Ghaifan enjoyed one of, if not, the best game in his young career. He filled up the stat sheet with a career best nine tackles, six of them solo. Ghaifan had four tackles for loss, two sacks and forced a fumble.
Junior QB Josh Allen was 14-24 in the game for 219 yards and three TD passes. He moved into 10th place in career passing yards at UW with 4,131. Allen also has 34 career touchdown passes, which moved him into a tie for eighth all-time with Craig Burnett (1986-87). He’s also 10th in total offense with 4,738 yards passing Randy Welniak (1985-88).
Coming off their first back-to-back wins this season, the Pokes will have some time to enjoy their recent success. They have the bye on their schedule this week. Wyoming will return to the field with a Mountain West game at Utah State Oct. 14.
