When I first saw this, I thought it was a joke. There's a guy who just shared a video of a quest he went on to Wyoming in pursuit of raw chocolate milk. As it turns out, it's really a thing.

Before I comment further, here's the video of his Wyoming raw chocolate milk adventure.

Thanks to this dude, I did a flurry of Googling of what raw chocolate milk really is. I get the "raw" part is non-pasteurized. But, chocolate? The website Nourishing Days has their own recipe for raw chocolate milk which involves cocoa powder. But, this guy quested to Shumway Farms in Afton, Wyoming so I checked out how they make their raw chocolate milk. Here's what they say:

Cocoa (processed with alkali), corn starch, dextrose, salt, carrageenan, guar gum, vanillin.

For some reason (probably the fact that I'm a mental midget who hasn't matured since age 8), I thought that for raw chocolate milk to be raw chocolate milk, it would need to come out of the cow as chocolate milk. Feel free to insert your own brown cow joke here. I know I would.

The other fact in this guy's video that surprised me is that raw chocolate milk is not legal in all states. Farmers in Wyoming can sell it direct to people like you, me and this guy, but not in Montana or Colorado. Sorry, no raw chocolate milk for them. Epicurious has the full list if you're interested.

The old saying that you learn something new every day does hold true. But, I must admit that I'm surprised that this new raw chocolate milk knowledge is on my list today.
