It was as if lightning propelled a capacity crowd out of their seats in the Casper Events Center when a team roping pair representing the sole hometown connection at the College National Finals Rodeo went for it and won in the championship round on Saturday night. Kellan Johnson is just a freshman and senior Trey Yates came to Casper College to improve under the tutelage of coach Jhett Johnson - the 2011 team roping world champion heeler. Kellan is Jhett's son and he ropes for Gillette College because his girlfriend is on that squad. Here is Johnson/Yates short-go winning run of 5.2 seconds at the CNFR and an amazing aftermath when the #1 team going into the championship round needing to be a seemingly attainable 10.6 seconds to take the top prize came up empty.
