With the arrival of the new year come new resolutions to improve and enrich our own lives.  One of the best ways to add color into your life as well as make memories with the entire family, is to visit one of our amazing national parks.  Doing it for Free is even better for those of us on a budget!

One of America’s best ideas was the setting aside of thousands of acres of land and designated them as national parks for everyone to enjoy.  This can become even better with several fee-free days at more than 100 national parks that usually charge entrance fees.

The National Park Service has set aside several opportunities for us to visit our parks and skip the entrance fee. The first entrance fee-free day is actually coming up this month and is almost upon us - January 20th (Martin Luther King Jr. Day), and it could be a great time for you to visit one of the nearby national parks in Wyoming as well as surrounding states.

Several of the national park areas in the Black Hills and Badlands region are always free to enter, but these fee-free weekends are especially good times to visit Badlands National ParkDevils Tower National Monument or Yellowstone National Park, since those parks normally charge a gate fee. Below is the official schedule of free entrance dates from the NPS.

Mark your calendar for these fee-free days in 2014:

  • January 20, 2014
    (Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday)
  • February 15-17, 2014
    (Presidents Day weekend)
  • April 19-20, 2014
    (National Park Week)

    (National Park Service Birthday)
  • September 27, 2014

Making the fun even more affordable, many national park concessionaires are joining the National Park Service in welcoming visitors with their own special offers.

Fee waiver includes: entrance fees, commercial tour fees, and transportation entrance fees. Other fees such as reservations, camping, tours, concession and fees collected by third parties are not included unless stated otherwise.
