I rooted for Tanner Gentry when he was a UW Cowboy. I’m still rooting for him now. Gentry has amazing qualities and drive. The Chicago Tribune’s Rich Campbell just shared a little story about Gentry. I wonder how many Pokes fans know this story because I never heard it.

As a boy, he played catch with his dad. Ryan Gentry was an all-conference receiver at Western State and he had one simple rule for young Tanner – catch the ball. “If I’d ever drop a pass,” Tanner said, “he would threaten to walk inside.” Tanner always wanted to play.

Another thing we know is that Tanner Gentry will “catch the ball” for any NFL team because he wants to play.

This makes sense, doesn't it? We enjoyed watching Tanner in Brown & Gold and we remember a number of times we said, "Wow, I can't believe Gentry caught that." He made a lot of amazing catches other receivers probably would not.

At 6’2" and 210 lbs., Tanner isn’t quite a prototypical NFL receiver. His first touchdown for the Bears, however, showed his speed, getting downfield fast behind defenders.

I root for Tanner Gentry not just because he grew up a Denver Bronco fan, but also:

1. He is an underdog, un-drafted like Hall of Fame inductee, Kurt Warner.

2. He's a hard working former Wyoming Cowboy.

3. He will always fight to "catch the ball" because he will always want to play.
