Wyoming Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Nevada

LARAMIE -- The University of Wyoming soccer team failed to come away with points during their first Mountain West Conference homestand.

The Cowgirls fell to Nevada, 1-0, on Sunday at the Madrid Sports Complex.

The defeat drops Wyoming to 4-3-3 on the season and 0-2-0 (0 points) in league play. The win improves the Wolf Pack to 3-4-4 on the year and 1-1-0 (3 points) in conference action.

Gabby Brown accounted for the game’s only goal Sunday. She scored on a penalty kick during the 66th minute.

The final tally may have been 1-0, however, it didn’t lack fireworks. A total of 45 fouls were called and three cards were given out, two of which went to Nevada’s Lauren Muff, putting the Wolf Pack down a player for the final 28:25 of the match.

That equated to the Cowgirls earning more scoring opportunities in the second half. They fired 10 of their 14 shots during the final 45 minutes.

Jamie Tatum and Jazi Barela led the way with three shots apiece. Alyssa Bedard – who saw her first action this season after working back from an injury – and Nikayla Copenhaver each added two shots.

Nevada logged five shots. Emily Rich registered two of those.

Haley Bartel made one save in net for Wyoming. Nevada goalkeeper, Emily McCue had two saves.

Wyoming now embarks on its longest road trip of the season. The Cowgirls are on the road for the next four contests, starting with a game at Boise State on Thursday at 7 p.m.
