At least one home is presumed lost and a number of other buildings have been destroyed by the growing Britania Fire near Wheatland, which had grown to 18,800 acres as of 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters are having to contend with shifting winds and rugged terrain, according to Public Information Officer Pat Kondas. Between 150 and 200 firefighters are assigned to the blaze, including one crew from Florida, with additional crews arriving Tuesday.

A pre-evacuation notice was issued last night for the Green Mountain and Palmer Canyon Road area. Residents and others in the area were advised that they should be prepared to leave quickly as the fire advances.

Kondas says it is difficult to confirm the condition of buildings near the fire, as firefighters have not been able to access some areas due to the terrain and fire conditions.

"Community response has been overwhelming," Kondas said in a statement. "A call for donations of water and Gatorade resulted in a tremendous outpouring from businesses and individuals. These donations will help the firefighters do their job."

An informational meeting is set for 7 p.m. at the Platte County Fairgrounds. The public is invited to attend.
