Signs, signs, everywhere are signs...

It's yard/ garage sale season, and there are signs everywhere. Most weekends through the summer, you can find a sale full of "treasures" all around the Casper area.

The idea of a yard/ garage sale has been popular since the 1950s and 60s, and is a great way to get rid of items you're no longer interested in owning. Selling your "treasures" is a better option than just throwing them into a landfill.

In Casper, you're allowed three consecutive sale days or three total days within 90 days.

Were you aware that there are protocols for displaying signs in Casper? Yep, all of those colorful, art-filled, attention-getting signs you see all over town may go against the rules.

Any city, state, or utility property in Casper is off limits for advertising. Meaning, if the city of Casper, the State of Wyoming, or any utility company owns it, you can't hang a sign there.

Hanging a yard/ garage sale advertising sign on a light pole, traffic signal, power pole, fences, trees, or driving a stake in the ground and attaching a sign is illegal in the City of Casper.

  • Placing signs in these locations can be hazardous and contribute to accidents.
  • There is a potential for the sign to block the line of sight for drivers trying to see oncoming traffic.
  • Driving a stake in the ground could lead to you striking an underground power or water line.
  • Nails, staples, screws, or tacks can cause injuries to someone who bumps into or touches the pole or workers in the area.

Casper doesn't frown on all yard/ garage sale advertising. You can place a sign on private property (with permission), as long as the sign doesn't cause issues.

Also, don't forget that you'll need to remove the sign within 72 hours of your sale ending.
