Natrona County Republican Women and the VFW are planning an event to put together care packages for our deployed Wyoming active duty military troops.

The official Facebook event page listed the details as follows:

The event will be held at the Bryan Stock Trail VFW on Tuesday November 12th, 2019 at 6:00 pm. It's all about the troops. We are hoping to fill 150 care packages to mail in time for Thanksgiving. In September we were able to help fill and mail 125. Wyoming currently has over 400 deployed soldiers. Please join us as we have a Military care package collection drive and packing event. The public is invited to come and help.

Please bring items to event and help assemble or drop off anything for shipping in time for the holidays. There are a ton of different things and donations you can bring or drop off for our deployed soldiers.

Following are some useful ideas on what to include.
Personal and Practical Items -
They are on our feet a lot when deployed, so some of the best items are those that help keep them dry, clean and comfortable. Items like: High-quality socks (I have to put this first, because high-quality socks was one of the first things every solider I spoke to said was top of the list)
Soap (shampoo, body wash, face wash, etc.) Toothpaste, toothbrush and floss, Deodorant (travel size/non-aerosol) Lip balm, Foot powder, shaving lotion, disposable razors, shampoo, mouthwash, lotion, pain relievers, eye drops, fingernail clippers, Q-tips, baby wipes, Sunscreen, Hand sanitizer, Pain-relieving topical cream (not a necessity, but can be a real luxury) Vicks VapoRub, Hand Warmers, Sewing kits, 3M wall hooks, Lens cleaning cloths, (being stationed in the Middle East their goggles often get clouded by dirt and sand in the air) Instead of relying on a t-shirt to clean them, lens cleaning cloths and small bottles of glass cleaner come in handy.
Food and Snacks - While there's enough food to go around on base, much of it can be a little bland, and the variety is lacking. Hot sauce, water flavoring packets, beef jerky, Slim Jims, protein bars, gum, sunflower seeds, snack bars, snack cakes, cheese crackers, gum, moose Crunch bars, nuts, trail mix, chips, gummies, seasoning salt, hot sauce, flavoring packets for water, individual packets of condiments, powdered drink mix, energy bars, tuna fish, sardines, summer sausage, candy, homemade cookies Instant Mac and Cheese, tea bags, peanut butter, coffee, Red Bull, Monster energy drinks, V8.
Downtime Activities - For as many moments of action service members face, there's plenty of downtime as well. Overseas, they have to make their own fun. Some items to consider include: Reading material (magazines, books or an e-reader like a Kindle) Handheld video games, frisbees, balls, board games, Decks of cards, iPod or thumb drives with movies, music and pictures, cards, stamps, puzzles, plastic model kits, Baseball gloves/baseballs, Batteries (AAs and AAAs) Pencils. Holiday decorations, anything Wyoming or Wyoming Cowboys! Really anything that could help decompress from a stressful day and focus on something else. absolutely no alcohol.
We will also need a TON of baggies in all sizes. So we can put toiletries separate from other goodies! There's nothing worse than getting some treats from home covered in soap.

Donations can be dropped off at the VFW any time up to the event.
