A powerful winter storm is expected to hinder travel in a big way on a pair of Wyoming's most-used interstate highways.

Interstates 80 and 25 are both expected to see high impacts as a result of the storm Tuesday night through Thursday, according to K2 Radio Meteorologist Don Day of DayWeather, Inc. Interstate 90 will likely see moderate impacts.

The storm track is not yet certain, Day said Monday morning on K2 Radio, but travel impacts are expected in central, eastern and southern Wyoming as well as western Nebraska, western South Dakota and portions of Colorado.

Blizzard conditions are possible Wednesday through Thursday, Day says, with winds of 50-60 mph in some areas.

Snow, possibly starting as rain, is expected to develop along the I-80 corridor across the state late Tuesday night toward dawn Wednesday.

Wednesday will likely see developing snowfall, becoming heavy, as far west as Granger and north to Kaycee, including all of southeastern and central Wyoming. Particularly heavy snow is expected along the I-25 corridor including the areas of Glenrock, Cheyenne, Pine Bluffs, Laramie, Medicine Bow, Lusk and Torrington.

Late Wednesday into Thursday morning, some of that snow is expected to spread north along the I-90 corridor.

Overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning, southeastern and parts of central Wyoming will see strong north winds, causing considerable blowing and drifting snow as well as possible blizzard conditions, Day says.
