Luke Perry will be remembered best for his roles in Beverly Hills: 90210 and Riverdale. The actor, who passed away this morning after suffering a massive stroke at the age of 52, was also beloved by rodeo fans for his portrayal of legendary bull rider Lane Frost in the 1994 film 8 Seconds.

Frost died in Cheyenne on July 30, 1989. Competing at Cheyenne Frontier Days, he had just completed an 85-point ride on the bull Takin' Care Of Business. When he landed in the dirt, the bull's horn struck Frost in the back, breaking several ribs and severing an artery. Frost originally got back on his feet and motioned for help, then went into cardiac arrest and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In 1990, Frost was posthumously inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. To commemorate the tenth anniversary of his death, he was inducted to the Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame in 1999.

For Perry, playing Lane Frost was one of the most important roles of his career.

"I’ve played other athletes, but I’ve never felt connected to anything else like I do bull riding," the actor and producer told American Cowboy in 2014. "One of the hardest parts of doing a movie about a real-life person is that you owe—I think—a measure of integrity to the story and who they were."
