Explore Wyoming’s Deep Connections To Its Veteran Community
Wyoming is an excellent place to call home if you're a veteran. There are great resources for the men and women who served in the military in the Cowboy State.
Wyoming's military history is extraordinary, with historic forts, a WWII airfield, a POW camp, and missile silos. The stories of the men and women who served make the history even richer.
Organizations across the state offer support, resources, companionship, benefits, activities, and hunting opportunities for 47,000 veterans living in Wyoming. Every one of those vets has a story that needs to be heard.
They're not all the same. Some stories involve multiple deployments, some have lighthearted and fun journeys, and some will be harder to tell, but they're all just as important.
U.S. Army Veteran SFC Darren Horve wants to give veterans an avenue to tell their stories with the Veteran War Project he's currently working on. Horve is a 20-year veteran with tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan and his own stories, but he wants to highlight the stories of other veterans in Wyoming.
Horve's goal is to talk with and hear the stories of at least 100 veterans, but if 500 vets contact him, he's all in. He's working with a veteran's magazine called 'Veteran's Life' based in Northern Colorado, which focuses on sharing information on veterans from Wyoming, Colorado, and Nebraska.
The project is to interview older veterans who have the privilege of looking back on their service throughout their lives and seeing how it affected them. It will examine how it shaped their lives, influenced their decision-making process, and ultimately, how they got on after their war.
If you are a veteran or know a veteran who would be interested in speaking with SFC Darren Horve and being a part of the project, feel free to email him at sfchorve@gmail.com
