Wyoming To Welcome Home Veterans After Their D.C. Journey
A group of Wyoming veterans is part of AARP's Voyage of Valor and will be heading to Washington, D.C., to honor fallen friends, share their military stories, and create lasting memories in our nation's capital.
The veterans were selected to travel to Washington, D.C., through Wish of a Lifetime, a charitable affiliate of AARP that grants life-enriching experiences to older adults. Before their trip began, they spent time with Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon.
After spending a few days in DC, visiting many of the memorials and catching a Washington Nationals baseball game, the vets will return to the Cowboy State on Saturday, April 11, and the public is invited to welcome these heroes home. The event will be Saturday, April 11th, from 10:00-11:00 am at the Lincoln Theatre. Come hear each veteran’s name read, what they thought about the trip, and honor them.
As part of the organization’s “Voyage of Valor” program, and while in DC, they visited national memorials, reflected on their service, and received letters of appreciation from local students ahead of America’s 250th anniversary. For these veterans, each of whom served in Vietnam and experienced significant personal loss during the war, the trip represents a meaningful opportunity for recognition and reflection.
The vets men have deep ties to their communities and have continued serving long after their military careers ended, including decades of involvement with local veterans organizations, volunteer work, and community leadership.
If you would like to be involved in future Voyage of Valor trips, you can donate to help make them happen. Check out the fundraising page to find out more.
