The Casper/Natrona Airport Has A Cool New Truck On Site
It's always cool to see the new (to Casper) toys the airport has, and the new (to Casper) truck is an Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting vehicle. The vehicle was passed to the Casper Natrona International Airport from the Jackson Hole Airport because they got a new one.
Every airport with commercial service must have an ARRF vehicle, which can do things a regular firetruck can't. The vehicle Casper is replacing is a 1996 model. When these vehicles go out of service, they are used as a training vehicle and a loaner that can help other commercial Wyoming airports if their truck goes down.
The ARRF vehicles provide services to airports that include:
- Fire Suppression
- Medical Response
- Passenger and Crew Extraction
- Mutual Aid to other local departments.
These vehicles are impressive.
Because of their size, they can do things a regular firetruck can't, for instance.
They are built for off-road driving and can navigate rough terrain. They are fitted with high-powered pumps that spray water and foam for long distances, and their large size allows them to carry more water, gear, needed equipment, and up to five crew members.
There's no doubt these vehicles are bad mamba jambas.
Knowing that the Casper Natrona International Airport is ready to go at a moment's notice and has some great fire rescue equipment should make you feel a little more comfortable.
