Who's up for some Oak Ridge Boys? The Oak Ridge Boys are old...really old.  In fact, the foundation for the group began  in 1943 as "Wally Fowler and the Georgia Clodhoppers."  When Wally wanted to channel his energies into gospel music, he, along with Lon "Deacon" Freeman, Curly Kinsey, and Johnny New, formed the "Oak Ridge Quartet."

Barbara Mandrell is the first country performer, besides those low-cut blouse wearing girls on Hee Haw that really did it for me.  What a cutie!  Plus, she played banjo...and had 2 hot sisters! (who were also musically inclined.  The whole family actually toured together at one time.)  In fact, I remember watching them on their own televised variety hour.  Good times!

Woodrow "Red" Wilson Sovine was born in 1918 and was an American Country music singer.  Red often would narrate his songs, in which he would talk, rather than sing over the music.  He found his niche with "truck driving" and "sentimental" songs.

I remember when I got my first glimpse of Lacy J. Dalton.  It was in 1982 on a Roy Clark televised music special.  (Thanks again, HBO!) She sat at a piano wearing a cool Cowboy Hat and Isotoner-like gloves.  Yes, I was in love!  It resonated enough that when I went to work for my first Country radio station, I immediately looked up the song, Hard Times, which I love to this day.  I could definitel

Okay, it's time to get serious.  As much as it pains me to call this man a "Legend;" (I can't believe we're both that old!)  if anyone qualifies for the honor, it's George Strait. George Harvey Strait, known as "The King of Country" was born in 1952.  He had his first hit, Unwound, chart in 1981.  That was also the year when Prince Charles and Lady Diana were married, MTV was l
